Hello, How is it going guys :)

So I currently have a Seagate barracuda 1 TB hard drive. When I format my hard drive I do it with DBAN. So I would have to download all my games again and again. I don't like having partitions.

I always thought of buying another cheap 120gb hdd. I don't actually need a SSD loading speed for my games. I am fine with what I have now.

So I wanna know what you think about this. I have a Western Digital 80gb hard drive with me. Would you think it would be enough to store windows and system drivers? (And adobe premiere and fireworks but that's not all that necessary)

And would it cause problems if one hdd is 6 gbps and the other one is 3gbps?

Thank you very much for you time gents :)

Solution
In any case, no matter where you buy it....get something 250GB or larger.
Preferably, actually 'new'.

Or, just continue to use your current 1TB.
80gb will hold windows 10 but not much more.
Many things default to the C drive, and 80gb or even 120gb will fill up quickly.
Do yourself a favor and buy a 240gb ssd.
Samsung evo is the best and not overly expensive. This is not simply for boot times, but everything you do will seem quicker.
Leave the HDD disconnected while you install windows.
If you do not, windows will stick some hidden recovery partitions on the hard drive.
That makes it difficult to ever again remove/replace the hard drive.
Apps will usually need entries in the windows registry located on the C drive.

You can install your games on the 1tb drive.
I agree, one single partition is easiest to manage.

Performance differences for a hard drive are minimal 3gb vs. 6gb.
Put the hard drive where you will.

For a ssd, sequential performance is some 4x faster on 6gb sata ports.
But... that sequential performance difference is not that important.
The benefit of a ssd is the small random I/O times and that is not impacted by 3gb/6gb attachment.

I dont intend to object what you all say but, I just checked my hdd and roughly calculated the space taken by win8.1, It's right under 40gb.

Used 100GB
Games -58GB
downloads and stuff~3gb
adobe~2gb

So OS has taken like 36GB(probably lower). I am asking because my knowledge is not that good. How would you exactly say I would run out of space? Because of the future Windows 10 updates?

(Btw I am on win 8.1 right now)

@geofelt Yes good sir, I would like to do my self a favor and buy 240gb ssd, But wallet strongly disagrees.

You're forgetting things that may not be readily seen.
Pagefile, tempfiles, etc.

My wife's system, which is strictly email and web browsing...consumes ~65GB in a 250GB drive.
The only reason that little space is consumed is because most of her 'stuff' exists in a 10.6TB NAS box.

You can get GOOD 1 TB or 2TB HD's NOW for around $50.

I am actually looking for a little hdd that could hold windows and few other softwares. Few days back I found a 320gb hdd for a very little price. It was a samsung one. I am thinking of buying that one. Any thoughts?

I know that but I live in a country where shipping rates are high and selection is very limited. Thus I would prefer getting opinion on a specific model I bring to the conversation. You can close this thread if you have to.

edit, I know a pc part supplier. My main usage is having windows and system drivers on it. That's it. Steam , origin, uplay and few other softwares as well.

Sizewise, a 320GB drive is just fine.
$20? That comes down to 'how well do you trust the seller that it is "new?"

You are right about that man... I checked from a local seller in my city. Not from the store I buy main pc parts like cpu, gpu etc. I am thinking about western digital ones. i have a seagate one now.

Thing about buying online, Few days ago I checked gta 5 price on amazon for a friend. Game price was 39$ and shipping cost was 57$.
