Hey,

So these past few months when i've played more intensive games on my laptop ive been getting a lot of framedrops which are obviously very frustrating. When gaming, my laptop (and alienware 15 R2, intel i7-7820HK (2.70 ghz) with 16gb ram and a GTX 980M) reaches temperatures of 99C (for like a second or so) but still sits 90+. Got this whilst playing PUBG on lowest settings. I have elevated my laptop so its at a roughly 45 degree angle so there is air circulation. I have also updated my bios, graphics card etc, literally almost everything :p Only thing i haven't done that im aware of is dust checking the vents, but i dont have the appropriate screws for removing the cover from my laptop. Any help is appreciated, this is sort of my last resort.

Solution
That's the problem with high-end gaming laptops, there is not enough room to keep things cool.

A rather complicated and risky fix is to remove the stock TIM (Thermal Interface Material) on the CPU and replace it with liquid metal (Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra or Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut). I just did that with my i7-7700K and it dropped temps by 20C.

It is risky because liquid metal is conductive and if it gets on the wrong part it could cause them to quit working. Extra precaution is encouraged.
