Please i Need help 3 days ago my pc started to go black screen suddendly (MOST and mostly of the time while playing games) the sound freezes too and hears horrible im forced to turnoff the pc with the switch behind the psu. i've been monitoring temps and other stuff while playing with differents apps and programs and everything seems to be totally fine, i've already formated my pc and started all over again with fresh OS and drivers, i even downgraded the gpu drivers to an old ones that i researched they are stable , these are my specs and temps while gaming:

Windows 10 64bit
CPU: I7 6700 3.4ghz (arround 45 and 60°C)
GPU: R9 390X (from 50 to 75°c depending on the game)
RAM: (2x16GB)32GB G-SKILL 2133mhz
PSU: EVGA Supernova 850W B2
1 SSD 240GB (30°C All the time)
1 HDD SEAGATE 3TB(37 to 45°c <i know this is pretty high sometimes i leave my case open and put the fan pointing inside to lower those temps)
MOBO: Gigabyte z170x gaming 3 (40°c almost all the time)
Case: Thermaltake M9(really old)

i live in a tropical country with arround 30 to 35°c every day and its pretty hot here :/ , im really worried about these crashes because they are so sudden, any info you might like me to give you please ask for it

Edit: the last crash scared me the sound dndt freeze totally and it was like in super slowmo and electric or something like that

Solution
Sounds like a PSU or GPU problem.

Try to underclock your GPU. Yes I sayd UNDERclock, not overclock.

Pull the Core clock and Memory clock sliders all the way down and see if the problem is still there.

im not an expert doing that, how do i do it?

edit:
i lowered the core clock from 1080 to 980
and the memory clock from 1500 to 1400
without touching the voltage its that ok?

im using msi afterburner

edit 2: lowered it a bit more just to make sure
core clock 950
memory clock 1350
so far 0 crashes (gaming)

nope, not yet im playing some heavy games like, paragon and fornite (well atleast heavy for my r9 390x) and still not crash i'll keep playing i'll let you know if something happens.

anyway supposing its "fixed" which would be the problem? the PSU not giving enough power?

Well I am off to bed now since its late in my country :)

Atleast we so long have figured out that it is either you PSU or GPU that is "faulty"

For the PSU its pretty simple, it either is ok or its not. Borrow a friends PSU to test or get a new one.

Now for the GPU it can either be: Broken, fans not working so it overheats, dusty and dirty cooling fins so it overheats.

Figure out the PSU first since that is the least expencive part + you have warranty on that one so you could just RMA it for a new one.

Im gonna keep using the PC with the gpu underclocked for a few days, if it does not crash, i'll turn it back to normal and try again, if it crashes, well i'll have to start testing with numbers to find a balance with the clocks and memory of the GPU till it does not crash and its not very low to not affect the performance too much.

im doing this because i dont have anyone to borrow me a PSU with that high amount of watts and i dont have money for a new one.

Anyway thanks man for the help atleast now i can play without Worrying about an "inmminent crash", if the pc does not crash in 2 or 3 days i'll pick your first comment as "solution", have a good day :)

edit: oh i totally forgot its not a temp problem of the gpu man, in the main description of the thread i mentioned that i was monitoring the temps of all the stuff on the pc and my gpu yeah runs kinda hot but between the normals of this gpu, i mean R9 390X runs hots like 80-85MAX at load, mine runs at 60-to 78° at full load hours of gaming so its ok

Dont worry i know about that, anyway im going to the safe way, im going to still using it like it's right now underclocked and if nothing happens i'll try that, about the cables and the output ,I hope patience will reward me

Well, after a really long match of paragon almost 1 hour of an intense game, the #### happened, it crashed... atleast the pc was kind and waited till the game was over to crash, going out to the lobby boom... honestly im trying to be positive on this, atleast it took a very long time to crash because i've been playing alot of games and stuff and had no crashes yet, till just now...SO... i'll underclock it even more... hoping it does not happen again(?) we are still testing anyway i said 2 or 3 days so lets keep trying, im not giving up yet

core clock from 950 to 915
memory clock from 1350 to 1315

i had to underclock a bit more
from 915 to 900
and from 1315 to 1300
since that the pc never crashed again, now im trying the new cables and vga outputs (da#m this gpu consumes alot of watts, i had to use both... VGA outputs to supply the GPU because the cables had only 1 of 8 pins and 1 of 6pins and my gpu needs 2 of 8 pins so i had to use 2 psu outputs and a pair of cables.)

im going to play a few games and try that benchmark, also i'll try furmark i have that one too so i'll let you know how it goes

EDIT: well... that was fast, not even 5 minutes and crashed, im going back to the old cables and output and im going to underclock again and i'll run the benchmark 30+ minutes to see if it crashes

40Minutes running the heaven benchmark at:

900 Core clock (1080default)
1300 memory clock (1500default)

0 crashes
68°c máximum
room temp 32c° approx
i think thats it, i'll have to stick to a r9 390x underclocked till i get a new PSU to try it out, its a shame honestly but being positive, i can still use my computer and play games normaly with a good quality, worse could be a totally burnt gpu or psu : P

thanks for the help man i really appreciate it, have a good day

got the same problem, a new PSU did wonders. the underclocking did not work for me though.
some advice for your new GPU: buy a corsair rx550m, its 80 plus gold and not that expensive ( around 90 euro's in europe )

haha if you have to money for it: here is a link with all the good PSU's tiered ( tier 1 are the best etc. )

well, a 550 80 plus gold is just as good as a 1000W 80 plus gold, there is no need in overpaying something that you dont really need but 1000W sounds pretty bad-ass if you ask me, just make sure your new PSU will fit in your case ( 1000W PSU are mostly bigger )

remember that i have a R9 390X this thing is power hunger as hell i think it requires a minimum of 600w
