Hello to whoever is reading this,
I am fairly computer literate and know enough to be very dangerous. I currently have a compaq prescription cq5600 and will be installing a new mobo, cpu, and memory which leads to two questions.

1. My operating system is Windows 7. If I am able to get a registration key, then I should not need to delete the drivers for the old mobo and upon start up put in the key when asked, correct?
2. If I am not able to get a key and need to upgrade without installing Windows, I need to make sure my steps are correct.
- uninstall programs associated with the mobo from the control panel
- uninstall drivers from device manager and shut down
- install hardware
- boot up and pray things work, if not then what?
- once Windows is up, install drivers for mobo
- install graphic drivers

Thanks in advance for help and information.

Solution
For a new motherboard, a full reinstall is always recommended, often required. No matter how much you mess about with drivers.
For Windows 7, you may need to purchase a whole new license key.

After further research, I will be doing a format and install.
