Best card for an Acer TC-780-u12

I want to be able to do some casual gaming with my Acer. The CPU is great, an 8 core 17. However, the graphics "card" it came with was an Intel 600. It also has a measly 300 watt power supply.

Is it better to buy a cheaper graphics card (and if so, what you would recommend), or a better one such as an Nvidia 1070, and replace the power supply? I'm on a limited budget and my son wants to use it to play games. However, he told me none of his games will run on this machine.

If you want to install a graphic card that run all type of games in high settings then i recommended you to buy a GTX 1060 it cost you around 370 $ but if you want a graphic card for playing games in low or medium setting then i recommended you to buy a GTX 1050 Ti it cost you around 200$ . And for PSU i recommended you to buy Corsair VS650 650 Watt Power Supply Unit or Cooler Master Power Supply B600 600 Watts PSU. Both are good and each cost you around 80$

A 1050 or 1050ti would work fine with that PSU. However, the card to best fit your needs depends on what resolution you want to game on.

If you have a 1080p monitor then the 1050ti would suit you well for medium-high settings in games. A GTX 1060 (3 or 6 GB) would be the best for 1080p along with an RX 570.

For anything higher, a GTX 1070 would be advised. Keep in mind that you will need to swap out your PSU for a higher wattage and better rated unit. Nvidia recommends a 500 watt unit for the 1060 and 1070.

I use a GTX 1060 and paired it with a 650 watt 80+ Gold PSU and that’s more than enough power.
