I have a dell insperon 3847 with an i5 4440 and am trying to find a good graphics card for it. The problem that I ran into is that I had an old card lying around, not sure what it is, and it wouldn’t display anything. I would like to put a 1050 ti in it but I’m worried it won’t work. The other spcs of the pc are a 500W psu that I put in, 8gb of ram, the standard 088dt1 dell motherboard, and a 320gb hard drive with windows 10 64 bit. I got the hard drive used and haven’t installed any drivers because I didn’t see a need. If I need to install something to make the pci-e slot work with a graphics card please let me know. Thanks for the help!

If you have the GTX 1050 ti lying around then sure go ahead use that card.

After installing the card go to GeForce Drivers website and download the driver software for your card. Install it and you're all set

The card is an asus Radeon hd 6450 and it is working just stuck it in a different rig. I don’t have a 1050 ti lying around but before I buy one I want to ensure that it works in the system.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from lman11rebel : "Does anyone know of a graphics card for Inspiron 3847"

Now, after doing a lot of research, it seems that their are only a few graphics cards that are able to be put into certain prebuilts. I tried to use a hd 6450 in my dell inspiron 3847 and it wouldn't show anything on the display, no matter what adapter I plugged it into. But, when I take it out it works fine.

I know that manufacturers do this to prevent issues, but does anyone know of a modern graphics card that will work no problem in this PC. I was thinking about a GTX 1050 ti but if it won't I am open to ideas.

If you are going to try and help me trouble shoot my current card then get the heck out, because I have posted at least 25 times explaining my issue and don't want to hear it. I know for a fact that the card works and that it will never in my PC.

Please Help Me!!!... If their is no good solution I am just going to buy a case and a used motherboard so I won't have any issue ever. Thanks for all of the help guys.

Lets stick with this thread ok?

When you put the card in, do you move the monitor from the onboard video to the GPU? Sometimes what happens is people leave the monitor plugged into the IGP and not the GPU. Make sure when you put the card in you plug the monitor into the GPU.

From the youtube videos that i watch, you should just be able to put a gpu in a prebuilt and get into pc gaming. What I want to know now is what gpus are compatible with my computer.

Excuse me? I'm trying to help. If you didn't want that question asked then you should have INCLUDED the info that you have moved the monitor. I didn't see where you mentioned you did that and it's a very common thing that happens. Perhaps update the bios? Or is that more stuff you don't want to hear?

From bumping threads to opening multiple threads on the same issue I should just shut you down. Sorry for trying to help you.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to sound rude. I have been at this for DAYS trying to find answers. Updating the bios doesn't seem to be an option. Thanks for you input!

I am certain that I have the current bios. And you are right in say that the card doesn’t need extra power. I also ensured that the pci-e slot supplied enough power to the card. I also upgraded the psu to a 500W evga.

Gah. I forgot about that. As an FYI if you upgrade to a newer card you'll need to flip that around again. New cards will have to have the legacy off/uefi on, while older cards like the one you are using need that on/off. Glad you got that figured out. I should have remembered that.

Yeah the new card would have worked fine. Now I at least know the PCI-E slot works. Thanks again for the help.
