This is more-so a query about the bios over anything else, probably should have gone in the mobo section but it pertains to gpu too so... best here? I intend to upgrade from a Gigabyte 980ti to an asus strix 1080ti (When funds permit.) I have a Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 5 motherboard. Couldn't find the actual revision but it says REV: 1.0 on the bottom left corner of the mobo so I assume that means Revision 1.0. Regardless, it's running the F2 version of the bios it came with in 2015. Will I need to update the bios to have it support the 1080ti or can I just plug it in and play, so to speak? I'll need the 1080 drivers of course. I've read around that normally GPU's don't normally need bios updates and looking at the site there doesn't seem to be anything on newer bios's that pertains to GPU compatibility but.. can't be too careful. I've not done much with PC building, hell, I've never even installed a bios so I'm exceptionally hesitant in that regard but... I do want the newer card.

Solution
Upgrading your BIOS is easy. Also, the new GPU is certainly compatible with your rig. Just install it along with the current drivers from Nvidia. Easy, peasy.
