Intel Optane memory with one HD partitioned

I've tried looking for a similar topic, couldn't find one. I was wondering if the Optane would boost all partitions on a main HD or only the current OS partition being used, I have an 750Gb HD with 3 main partitions, one for Windows7, one for Ubuntu and the last for sharing files between the two OS's. I'm researching if it's worth it to buy one optane or one SSD instead to go with my HD.

Interesting question. As far as I understand it, Optane speeds up whole physical drive. However, it only works on Win 10, so you get no bonus on Ubuntu - unless somebody managed to find a workaround for Linux (namely Intel RST driver that works with Linux). However, from Optane requirements page:
Intel Optane memory can only accelerate SATA-based boot drives (SSD, SSHD, HDD).
Intel Optane memory does not support acceleration of secondary or storage drives.

So going straight by the letter, only your Windows boot drive will get boosted.

Hi,
i have a similar query:
I have a Lenovo Y530 which came with a 2tb + 16gb Optane config.
I'm thinking of partitioning the drive into 2 1gb ones for keeping the files and programs separate.
My question is would Optane be accelerating both the partitions or just the one with the OS ?

I believe it would be the whole physical drive.
