Ryzen 5 1600 overclocking while lowering voltage below stock safe?

Hello everyone,

I tried my hand at overclocking my Ryzen 5 1600 with its stock cooler. I incrementally increased the CPU frequency, testing with both 15 minutes on aida64 and 3-4 back to back runs on cinebenchr15. I found that I can go up to 3.7 GHz at 1.2500V, however, 3.8GHz boots but crashes during testing.

Turing up the voltage to 1.3 still is not stable, I did not feel comfortable going past 1.3 due to using the stock cooler. After messing with it a bit more I found that 3.7GHz is stable even at 1.2375V (which was lower than stock). My question is, should I keep lowering the voltage until the system becomes unstable? Or should I leave it as is?

Here is my pcpartpicker link for the parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2QL9m8

Thanks a bunch!
P.S. I plan on getting an aftermarket cooler soon.

No Problem if you go under the stock voltage, you probably got a a good cpu, not the best reaching high Frequencies but a good one reaching mid frequencies with low voltages, the max damage that can cause an undervolt is some crashes...

Oh okay, I see. Should I try settle for 3.7 GHz then? Or should I try to keep pushing for a bit more after getting an after market cooler. Also, as some additional info, my idle temps are around 29C at 1.2375V @ 3.7GHz.

You can try but i dont recommend it, it looks like your processor has some type of "voltage wall" reaching higher frequencies, is something curious, i will try to explain it, your processor can go up to 3.7ghz with varius voltages stable*. But for reaching 3.8 ghz you will need a BIG JUMP in voltage, and that's not worth it....

I have oc my ryzen 5 1600 to 4.05ghz 1.4v with the stock cooler : https://valid.x86.fr/edv1cp
And i always run it since few weeks at 3.6 ghz at 1.1435v at stock it was always between 1.2 and 1.35 :)
I have 32c in idle and always less than 62c after a stress test of 1 hour
I'll buy a good ventirad soon and push it to 4.2 GHZ with 1.45 v when i coed to 1.45 ghz it beats itel i7 6800k in single core and i7 8700k in hyper threading that's just amazing
I can oc it to 4 ghz with a bit less than 1.375 v
