Motherboard USB Header Compatibility with Case Front Panel

I have done some extensive Googling, but am still confused.

I purchased an Antec 900 in 2008 for my first build. I am looking to upgrade my PC and keep the same Antec case. Looking at the Antec manual on the website, page 3 indicates that the front panel has USB 3.0 connectors with 10 pins. The new motherboard I am purchasing, the Asus Maximus X Hero z370, has USB 3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 headers with 20 pins as well as USB 2.0 headers with 10 pins according to the manuel on page 17.

From my research, it seems that USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 are essentially the same thing. Thus, I am confused why my case claims to have USB 3.0 connectors when these would not seem to fit with the motherboard's 3.1 Gen 1 headers.

Do I actually have a 2.0 front panel?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The antec 900 was released before usb 3.0. You can tell by the port color, 3.0 is blue. It was later updated with usb 3.0. Looking at the manual, it does not say usb 3.0, it just says usb, but the picture and description is the 10 pin 1.0-2.0 header.
This is just a copy / paste from MSI

USB 3.0 was launched in 2008, it provided an unprecedented increase in transfer speeds (up to 5Gbps) and added more power to connect more peripherals. In 2013 another major leap was made with the introduction of USB 3.1, doubling the speeds to as much as 10Gbps!

Recently however, the USB-IF organisation published an article where they announced that USB 3.0 connectors capable of 5Gbps (SuperSpeed) would now be classified as USB 3.1 Gen 1. While the new USB 3.1 connectors, capable of 10Gbps (SuperSpeed+) would now be classified as USB 3.1 Gen 2.

USB 3.0 is now called USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Speed up to 5Gbps)
USB 3.1 is now called USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Speed up to 10Gbps)

And specs for your case: http://store.antec.com/gaming-series/nine-hundred.html

Thanks, that's what I gathered from my research. However, I am not sure that answer my question as to why my front panel is only 10 pins while the motherboard header has 20 pins. I am assuming I cannot just plug in the 10 pin front panel to the 20 pin header.

Thank you. You are right the manual does not state 3.0, but the specs on the website are listed as 3.0. Regardless, I think you have cleared this up for me. I guess I can live with 2.0 on the front as I will still have some 3.1 on the back.
