Hi Guys,

Here is my current build:

Case NZXT S340 Elite Matte White
Cooling NZXT Kraken X62
CPU Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E 6-Core 3.3GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 2011
Memory Corsair Dominator GT 32GB (4x8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1866
Monitor ASUS PG279Q 27" 165Hz
Motherboard ASUS ROG Rampage IV Extreme
Power Supply Corsair AX860
Storage Corsair Force Series GT 2.5" 480GB SATA III Internal SSD
Video Card ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 TI 11GB OC Edition

Everything runs smoothly, at good temps however when I run the system under load (playing a game for example) the chipset fan (see pic)

begins to spool up to full, but immediately stops. It spools up again, and stops, it's continuously spooling and stopping. It's loud enough for me to notice. Does anyone know if my motherboard senses the temperature? What is the chipset temperature called in HWiNFO? Any help getting this fan under control would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

My guess is that fan is sticking because it's dirty. If there is a way i would unplug or disable the fan in the BIOS. I can't imagine it's doing very much good, chipsets don't produce a lot of heat. Just touch the heat-sink while it's running. if it's not too hot for you to touch, it's not a problem.

Turns out my GPU was heating it up too much. I moved it one slot up, and it fixed the spooling. Plus I noticed it was on an eight lane PCI slot. Moved it to a sixteen lane PCI slot, so bonus added performance:) Thanks!
