Hey there guys. Im hoping some of you can help me out. Im an idiot as the title insinuates but ill do my best.
So. I play league of legends on my prebuild asus m11aa. It has a
I5 processor 3340s
Intergrated hd graphics card
4gb ddr3 ram. 1stick 1600
150gb c drive
300w psu
So ive been looking at buying a new pc for sometime but the funds just havent been there.
The other day whilst playing league of legends (lol) i got that fps drop that tipped me over the edge. So i went and got a new graphics card. Asus nvidea 1050ti 4gb strix. More than capable of the job im told.
When i got back i installed the graphics card. Im an idiot so took me a while but i got there in the end. Powered the pc and got a black screen with a message saying insert pcie cables. Or something to that effect. So i opened the pc again and had a look. Found that the graphics card had 6 pin female port on it and a 4 pin male port. Tried to do some research (can be difficult to decifer some stuff) and worked out it essentially just needed more power? So back i went and got my self a “cable”. One end has the desired 6 pin connection the other split into two parts. Each with a 4 pin (what I believe to be called a molex). Although strangely i noticed that one end on had 3 pins inside the head (if that makes sense) and the other only 2 out of the 4.
Being the idiot i am i thought try with the 2 first in case 3 blows something up, if that doesnt work try with 3. So i did. And two didnt work (got same error measage) and 3 did. So now i have my prebuilt pc with a new graphics card in it. Monitor IS connected to the graphics card hdmi not the intergrated. Boot up the pc first thing i do is got to nvidea site and install the drivers. All seems fine. Boot up lol excited to see the preformance go in to a game to see the fps (league has an in built setting allowing you to cap fps). My aim was to run high setting awith a solid 60fps. Thats what i wanted from the new graphics card. I un cap the fps on the lowest settings and get 333 fps. Its fluctuating quite a lot considering nothing was happening in game. Then change the quality to highest and cap it to 60 fps. I only get 59 fps. Not 60? So i cap it to 80 fps max i get is 77. 120 fps cap get 117. 144 fps get 137. Why? That makes no sense, right? Still get big fps drops of like 44 on uncapped too which sits at 250 on highest quality settings. Its worth mentioning on the intergrated graphics card when capped to 60fps i can get a solid 60fps not 59 whilst idle in game.
Checked the task manager preformance and noticed im using almost all my ram. In some cases as high as 93% which im assuming is high. Cpu seems ok around 18-40% i believe. Checked the graphics card temperature and its fine. Like 38c.
Ive ordered ram and it should be here today. Hopefully that resolves the issue but I dont know.
My questions are. Have i installed it correctly? Do both molex need to be plugged in? Isit the correct cable? Is ram the issue? Does that 4 pin on graphics card need to be connected.
I Massively appreciate anyone thats taken the time to read through this mess above and thank anyone that can responds. Thank you guys
Jamie.
