Hello,

I have a Sapphire Radeon R9 290 OC bought 2 years ago and starting a few months ago (right after an update, cant recall which one) ive started to encounter a lot of issues when starting my system. (Only when starting my system).

When I boot up and im shown my desktop, first here are several graphical bugs/artifacts on screen like weird black or white lines and such.

After a few seconds my display restarts and all artifacts go away. I then get a message telling me Wattman settings have been reset to default settings.

Then, i get some more messages that some programs have been blocked from accessing my graphics hardware. (programs such as discord, searchui or something etc)

After all this, the system works and performs fine (including the gpu) all day until the next reboot.
Do note, gpu performance is the same as before, my games play well and i get good frame rate even in prolonged gaming sessions.

Also note that I have never used Wattman, all settings are set to default. I have even tried to remove it from my system but with no luck. I just cant seem to get rid of that shitty piece of software.

Ever since i started getting these issues i've been googling around, reading, trying various solutions, nothing. All evidence seem to point to that Wattman thing.

Any help would be highly appreciated since im tired of bashing my head against this wall!

System specs:
Win 10 pro
i7 4790
Asus Maximus Ranger VII mobo
16GB DDR3 RAM
120GB SSD
512GB SSD
1TB HDD
R9 290 GPU
750W PSU (EVGA Supernova B1)
1080p display

I know this sounds a little silly, but did you remember to plug in the power connector for your GPU?

That aside, you can try using Catalyst to uninstall your graphics drivers (make sure to remove preferences as well). It’s possible that Radeon Wattman is providing the wrong power to your GPU. I just hope it hasn’t caused any damage.

I have a 750W PSU, specifically the EVGA Supernova B1 750.

I forgot to add it to the system specs.

Im pretty sure its more than enough for my system

Yes it does seem a bit silly :)
There is no way the connector is unplugged ... been running with this rig for years im sure i would have noticed it before now.

Ill try uninstalling through Catalyst and see whats what.
