Looking to upgrade to either one to tide me over until Ice Lake, and was wondering if the price difference of the 4790k is worth it. I can get a 4770k for $170, while 4790k is usually $200+, rarely being $200. What are your guys thoughts?
Even if you got unlucky like I did with my 4770K then you would get at least 4.2GHz. With a 4790K you're looking at 4.6GHz most likely. You could probably find a 4790K for $250. You're paying 50% more money nearly for less than 10% more potential performance. My 4770K never was too hot but I did delid trying to go higher with my overclocking. It still wouldn't overclock any higher but at least I get slightly lower temps. You probably won't have to delid. I really don't recommend it unless you're right on the edge of being able to overclock higher. I don't know about you but I think 50% more money for 10% more performance is a pretty bad deal. It's the exact same CPU except for clocks and TIM and a few little transistors on the bottom.

Yea thats what I'm thinking, I can't find any cheap 4790k's, and I talked the guy down to $150 for the 4770k.

That's a good price. Was it overclocked? OC is great, but it degrades a CPU. It makes the jump up to a 4790 a worse value. With regards to the 4770k vs the 4790k. I suggest you also google and read a few comparisons. Not saying it should change your opinion but best to find out what you're buying before money changes hands.

He said it was Overclocked to 4.4/4.5.
This will just be a placeholder to contain my itch so I can wait for 10nm 8 core icelake.
