Odd mouse behavior on new build

So I’m having an odd problem with a new build. The mouse/PC is acting weird. When using the mouse the effect seems delayed, the scrolling is unaffected but the “clicking” is were the oddity comes in…. sometimes it won’t highlite the item or the highlite is delayed and sometimes the click doesn’t work or hangs and when it does work it often reverts to prev item/screen when you move the mouse or sometimes when you do nothing…waiting with the pointer over the item will sometimes cause it to highlite. This doesn’t seem to be the case in the bios screens but the mouse scrolling is a bit odd there as well but the click works ok. This first happened when trying to install win 10 64 and I got to the enter code and did so and it hung there, also did when I tried to get by this by clicking "I don’t have code" and it hung there…fooled around with diff HDD/SSD(originally using an M2 SSD) and still had the issue but eventually thru no skill of mine I did get windows installed but the problem persists, flashed w/ the most current bios and no change…I suspect I have a bad MB
Anybody else have a similar issue and found a solution????

cant even get there...dont know how to keyboard command to that point like I said it wont stay on a page long before reverting its very frustrating, have used multiple mice and different ports..I have done a clear cmos also and this was occurring before the windows install...good idea on the driver tho but doesnt the driver reinstall w/ each change you make when u switch ports and or mice, has gone thru multiple restarts & bios update

I understood from your description the mouse was working, just not very well. Can your identify the mouse in more detail? Is it USB or PS/2?

have used two different mice same issue....it is a very odd issue and diff to describe....again the scrolling works as it should and when i roll over an icon on desktop it highlites on the task bar tho it often does not or if i leave it there it will sometimes highlite, when i click it it sometimes will hang there some times will open then will revert back....w/ patience I can get to settings and the search window has the blinking cursor in it but that will sometimes stop blinking for a while as well...i can sometimes type something in the slot but if i select one of the choices it will flash to the new page then bounce back to prev page or even farther back

What your describing sounds like it may be more than just a problem with your mouse, but something else wrong with your system.

I will ask again though, have you tried using both a PS/2 and USB mouse? The PS/2 connection may work better.

ok not sure if the MB has a ps/2 port and I think I have a mouse that has that plug, but I also believe that its not a mouse problem i am very suspicious that the MB has a problem...i have built over 100 PC's and while I think I am near expert at putting them together I am no expert and these kinds of problems...this is very odd...I would think that a cpu or memory or hdd/ssd would cause the whole system to chk out and do BSD type things...my first thought was the mouse as well but had same issue w/ known good mouse and same on all ports and when plugging in flash drives into any of the ports it dings and reports the presence...will get back tonite w/ update on mouse

To me the most important thing for you is to get into Device Manager, look for any yellow warning signs and just check generally that all your drivers are up to date.

OK so it appears that the p/s 2 mouse does work fine....as soon as I plug in the usb mouse i have a few clicks until the whole thing hangs...I get device manager open and then open the mouse tab and only the mouse plugged in shows... i plug in the usb mouse and then tried updating the driver and it says current one is best, tried uninstalling device and then tried to rollback driver but that option wasnt open...cannot really find a mouse driver that is not part of some software suite...of course all of these attempts required a restart with the usb mouse unplugged....where would the mouse driver live on the mb soft ware...chipset ? with win 10 i dont really use the mb disc any longer win 10 installs the drivers completely

Since the PS/2 mouse works properly, that tells you the problem is probably your USB drivers in general.

Go to "Control Panel > Device Manager" and look at "Mice and other pointing devices", "Human Interface Devices" and "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Check that there are no yellow warning signs and if all of these drivers are up to date.

You should probably also update your motherboards Chipset Driver [which includes chipset \ sata raid \ USB driver] to the latest version released on Sept. 28th 2017.

ok no luck still having issues, in device manager no yellow alert shields anywhere, device manager says all drivers upto date and wont allow reinstall as says they are current and no option to roll back, windows update says all current, downloaded the chipset drivers and installed...still having issues

I can't think of any other suggestions except contacting Gigabyte Support on their website. Describe the problem you are having with USB on your motherboard. They may have a solution for you or they may send you an Email with instructions on how to RMA the motherboard.

If you haven't already done this re-seat RAM modules; that is take them out and put them back in the slots. Also wouldn't harm if you try to boot system with them one at a time and also run a bootable Memtest to check RAM for faults/errors.

Also it wouldn't hurt to re-seat CPU. Once it's out check for bent pins on it; pins that might be a little out of shape and not aligned with other pins in the row/column and also check if the slot is clean and free of debris or dust etc. (I know it's a new board, wouldn't hurt to look).

What CPU cooler are you using? and did you apply thermal paste yourself by any chance or used what came with the cooler perhaps? Asking to see if by any chance TIM has ended up in the socket and in the CPU ZIF socket holes.

ok I feel like an idiot, tore the PC down and switched motherboards and guess what still has the issue...almost kicked it!!! out of desperation I tried the known good mouse again and I couldn't believe it it worked fine...soo it turned out to be the most obvious thing which was what I tested first and was having the same issue with the other mouse...who knows.... switched back to the prev MB and it is working fine with another of the same mouse(was an RGB m&k combo that I had 2 of)...will be RMAing to newegg

thanks for the help and brainstorming.....win 10 doesn't make this kind of stuff so easy any longer as it automatically installs drivers and its not easy to switch or update them like it used to be...but I will have to say if it goes smoothly it is very nice!!!
