Motherboard or driver problem?

I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P, Rev 1.0 motherboard, I have had it for two years. USB3 has always been a bit temperamental, but I put it down to a slightly dodgy software issue. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate last week without the slightly dodgy software. USB3 worked for a day or two, but then suddenly stopped and Windows couldn't see anything in the ports. I had all the latest drivers and updates. I have reinstalled Windows today and it still doesn't see any USB3 ports, although all the others work. I installed the drivers that came with the board first to see if it was an updated drivers problem but it didn't make any difference.
I can't work out whether this is a motherboard or a software problem. The ports have power to them, if I plug my mouse in it lights up, as does a USB3 hard drive I have, but Windows doesn't see anything plugged in to the ports and doesn't show them in Device Manager either.
The board is no longer under warranty...

There is a BIOS update, but the site implies it's a Beta version, and says nothing about a USB3 issue. The update is dated 2014. I have downloaded it and will give it a try once Windows has finished doing some more updates it's just found. I'm a bit worried about killing the system completely though, apart from the USB3 ports, everything else works fine!

There is no USB3 listed in Device Manager. I can see:
3 x Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
4 x Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
1 x USB Composite Device and
7 x USB Root Hub.

None of the USB3 ports are working. I have two at the front and two at the back, none of them are seen by Windows when anything is plugged into them.

Sound is working fine, I have tried to update the driver for the one with the yellow triangle and it says it is up to date and working properly. The device status in properties tells me that Windows can't verify the digital signature for the drivers. (Edit)I need to use an older GPU driver as the latest ones don't show colours properly in Lightroom and Photoshop. I am a photographer.
