Hey.

So a few days ago I decided that I want to upgrade my ram memory of my XPS Studio 8100. I've been using it quite a while and felt like the time had come. I don't know much about computers so I bought a 4GB ram with 1866mHz speed. I placed it in my PC and bam, since then my ram slots barely work. Out of the 4 slots, only one works and it can hold a maximum of 2GB to be able to fully boot up. I tried the 4GB ram, but it just restarts over and over. Anyone know a fix for this?

XPS Studio 8100
Intel Core i5-650 3.2ghz
4 slots which used to have 1gb;1gb;2gb;2gb so 6GB in total.
GTX 1050 4G windforce

so i did a 5 minute search, i found out that you need DDR3 RAM in your computer, if you bought DDR4 RAM this will indeed not work ( your motherboard does NOT support DDR4 RAM ). if you bought some random RAM it would be more likely DDR4, its more on the marked. ( newer and stuff )

I did my research too and it's a DDR3 ram so it should work, but that's not only the point. My old RAM won't even work anymore except one slot out of the four. Is it possible that it got damaged?

it is possible but i doubt it, are you sure you 'clicked' it in good ? you have to press fairly hard ( yes the motherboard will bend a little bit ) you need to hear a loud 'click"

I did. I get a beep sound at slot #1, 2 and 4. At slot 3, my pc boots up a few seconds and then restarts in this forever loop.

Yes, I'm pretty sure. I reseated and tried all slots out for 100 times and I can only get one to work.

can you get into the BIOS ? if you can get into it try and search for 'load optimised bios' it worked with a friend of mine. you can find it in the 'advanced section' normally

I can only use BIOS with the old RAM and I must say there aren't that much options for me to choose. Old version of BIOS maybe?

Yes, but depending on the placement, sometimes I get a black screen when starting, sometiles I get a beep sound. When it works, the maximum I get is 2GB out of the 6GB inserted. It worked perfectly fine before. This is really frustrating.

Ah I got it to turn back on. It only works in a specific order when all slots are used. It's now in 2gb:2gb:1gb:1gb and the BIOS says that only 1024 mb is installed.
