So i recently got a dark rock pro 3 and its running my chip hotter than the hyper 212x . I already reseated the cooler and the thermal paste was spreaded evenly. The only thing i could think of is the way i installed it. I screw it in from the back but the backplate is not flush with the back of the motherboard. Im not sure how to get it flush and im mad because my i7 4790k is running above 70c at 1.212v

Solution

You most likely used too much thermal paste. The goal is to use as little as possible, If it was more than a BB in size, it was too much.

Adding too much thermal paste does not impact the performance that drastically

Sure it can. Just screw it up bad enough. That or failing to plug in the fans are about the only way to get a dark rock pro 3 to perform that badly without immediately failing, which is what would happen if you mounted it at an angle or similar..

Just re applied thermal paste and I used a little grain of rice method and it's still getting excessively hot. I think it's not mounting properly. The bottom of the backplate is sticking out and isn't flush with the motherboard like the top of the backplate

Have you compared your mount with photos of the cooler online?

I cant find anyone having the same problem as me but i think my backplate is getting pushed up by the motherboards metal plate on the back, because when I take the backplate off it leaves an indentation from the screws on the motherboard

Maybe get a hard foam (heat resistant) pad?

I'm really disappointed in be quiet i opened a support ticket with them, but if I can't get this figured out I might just return the cooler and get a aio

They're a pretty good company, I would be surprised if you didn't get good support.
