Hi,

so the internal SATA hard drive in my tower died and i need to transfer data from it onto a new SATA drive. I opened my case and found that there are only extra SATA data transfer cables set up but no power for another hard drive. Is it possible to hook up only the SATA data cable to the new hard drive with the old one still in to transfer data, or is data transfer only possible with a power cable?

Thanks guys

BIOS access has nothing to do with the disk. You would have to have some kind of functional computer to orchestrate the transfer.

Do you have OS installation media? Getting a new SSD and doing a fresh install would probably be night-and-day difference from your current setup. After OS install is complete, then connect the failing drive and copy your data files off.

quick question. kind of unralated, but i do have an external hard drive at home already that i use for my console with plenty of room on it. If i were to plug it into my tower using usb would i be able to transfer the data onto it? then install the new balnk drive and transfer the files.
