For Black Friday I got a Crucial MX300 Solid State Drive and before i only had a 1 TB Hard Drive. I am wondering how to transfer only the operating system to the new SSD because I cannot clone the whole Hard Drive to it.

Solution
You'll just have to specify which drive is the default boot drive in BIOS. Otherwise the computer may attempt to boot from the old HD instead of the SSD.

If your OS partition is larger then the SSD you are planning to clone to, then that won't work. You'll have to uninstall apps/games(or delete files) until it will fit. Otherwise you'll have to re-install Windows onto the new SSD.

Sorry for the confused jumble that is about to happen. But what would be the best way to go about doing this? Install it on SSD but is there anyway to delete the OS off of the HDD so it doesn't take up space? If not how would I set up SSD as primary boot and stuff? Also would my license key transfer over?

If you can, backup any data from the old hard drive to another device(usb flash drive, external hard drive) or anything that would possibly fit onto the SSD. It's then best to format the old HD.

If you have a laptop or a pre-built desktop(hp, dell, etc..) then the Windows license key will transfer over/re-activate anytime you re-install on Windows(as long as it's the same version of Windows that originally came with the system). If it's a custom built system, you'll need to re-enter your license key to activate Windows again.
I have also seen instances where performing a clone still requires Windows activation.

I am not completely sure if I have something to store all my hard drive information on so I can reformat it. Is there any problem with having the OS on both the HDD and SSD or would they conflict with each other
