Performance not as expected? Or are my expectations wrong

Hi All,

I've built the following PC and have been gaming on it for 2 weeks, and I'm slightly disappointed in the FPS some games are giving me: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/WL8Lhq

When loading Hellblade: Sennua's Sacrifice I was receiving between 20-80 FPS, but mostly around 30 with a lot of stutter. Assasin's Creed: Origins is also giving between 40-60.

Even Fortnite initially was stuttering a lot.

Using the GeForce experience game launcher reduces stutter to negligible, however doesn't improve FPS.

I've made sure my monitor is set to 165hz, 1440p, GSYNC enabled. Any game settings are all on ultra and FPS caps and V-Sync is off.

I've not overclocked my memory in the bios or overclocked anything, as my GPU temps are around 45c-65c and performance stats for CPU never peak over 50%.

Any help at all would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Solution
1. Cable to monitor must be plugged to the 1080Ti and not to mobo...don't laugh...this is also among the most common mistake
2. Any energy saving profile is running? Set everything to performance and not to energy saving e.g. from nVidia control panel for the GPU.

FPS caps are off in any games that provide the option yea. I'm surprised myself. The drivers are all up to date.

I haven't built a PC in years and one thing which made me nervous was the GPU didn't line up perfectly with the PCI slots in the case, so to screw it down I had to force the case in, and the card slightly down. I'm hoping this hasn't caused any damage or affecting performance, but everything is being recognised.

Could this mean anything from DXDIAG in the display devices section? I'm on 64bit...

Current Mode: 2560 x 1440 (32 bit) (165Hz)

Native Mode: 2560 x 1440(p) (59.951Hz)

Weirdly, the GPU is listed twice in the dxdiag and the second entry says:

Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Native Mode: 1680 x 1050(p) (59.883Hz)

Is this normal?

Funny enough I did plug in to the MOBO when building it, but from the result it seemed the 8700 didn't have onboard graphics, so it's definitely in displayport on the card.

My Power options are also set to high performance

So it looks like I can't use the default high performance power settings so I manually tweaked the balanced profile and I'm hitting 90-100 fps in game for Hellblade (previously 30-40), but Assassins Creed Origins is still hovering at 42 fps
