hello I have i7 4790k cpu with stock clock 4.0ghz no boost because when I set it to boost the temperature is very hot I live in Israel and I do not know how much temperature my room is but the cpu in 4.0ghz in idle is 37c/42c/43c and it dependent in the games but in load it from idle temperature go to 55c/62c/66c and in games like heavy cpu games that make my cpu use 100% cores the temperature is 69/73c first is this normal ? I have new cooler I rplace my intel stock cooler with zalman cnps90f and this temperature much better befor when I was running the new assassins creed origins the temperature go up to 95c load now the max the game take is 72c/69 no more is this fine ? now my problem is I want to turn on turbo boost but when I just now do prime95 test for 5 minutes so the temperature go to the roof one core is 96c the others are 97c/90/88 and then I stop the test

70C-ish is fine for an air cooler. Breaking over 80 is considered dangerous and you should avoid bringing it toward the 90s again. I'd recommend a better air cooler personally, but I don't know exactly what you can get in Israel. Do you have any extra fans in the case to exchange heat properly?

cnps90f is air cooler ? I wanted evo 212 but this the only cooler the shop have so I take it good if it drop my temp from 70c + in gaming not?

it close to my home and the shop seller come to my home and install it to me and I have 1 back fun one top one bottom of the case that take heat from power supply because it down and one on cover of the case to cool down gpu and cpu and it only get to 90c+ with prime95 now when I play assassins creed origins the max it go is 65c some times 73 but not more then this befor it was up to 95c only when I run this game with the stock intel cooler other games that are not broken like assassins creed origins that take a lot of cpu that now run in good temp 65c running max temp 60c 63c and older game even run less then 60c so I want to know if I shold turn on turbo boost now I run my i7 4790k on normal non turbo 4.0ghz because with the old cooler when I was running turbo it was like 98c 83c in any game and in idle it was 66/70c and when I turn it off it was 55c 60c and in game 83 assassins creed origins 95c with old intel cooler not my new cnps90f

one suggestion, download a few other temperature monitoring utilities to confirm the temps you're currently seeing

and as far as over temp,, as other posters have said, those temps are fine, at 80C the intel cpu starts to throttle some activitiy - the top limit is 100C and at that point there is a thermal limiter which drops it's usage to save the cpu.

That thermal limiter saved my i7-4790 that i was using in a video rendering computer. I was relying on an ASUS monitoring utility for temperature and it always seemed to show max 67C - it would hit that temp and stay there whether cpu was at 10% load or 100% load.

I downloaded a few other utilities and was a little surprised to find they all showed 98-100C at 100% usage, and i'd rendered 5-7 videos a week for 3+ months, video jobs that took 1 - 3 hours each. My CPU should have fried itself ( i learned later the Asus performance monitoring utility had a problem with temperature reporting.

But since that event, i've downloaded intel's Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) - in it there is a benchmarking utility that once i run a benchmark test, it offers to upload my score and compare to others - i do, and it actually allows me to compare my score to only other users with the same Z97 chipset and i7-4790 cpu - i've never failed to score in the top 5%, so that leaves me comfortable the intel thermal limiters did their job and there was no permanent damage

hope that helps

you not seen that I change my intel cpu cooler to cnps90f so now the temperature is not 80c it now 37c 39c 42c 43c idle but in games it 63c 55c and in game like the new assassins creed origins when I play the game the max temperature is 65/73c only in this game other games max is 55/65c or 66c not more for now at last with the old intel cooler I was getting in assassins creed origins 95c in game this crazy this why I change to zalman cnps90f and I have gtx 1060 6gb gigabyte and 16gb ddr3 duel channel

ok I will stay with out turbo boost I try it now and turn on assassins creed origins and I was seen the cpu jump from 43 idle turbo boost to 100c fuck I hope I not have damage to cpu

man, i'm sorry to tell you, but the cnps90f is very basic cooler and a bad match for this CPU.
Usually for i7 with K index, you should buy at least something like this:
https://www.ivory.co.il/catalog.php?id=11569
if you don't intend to overclock, the stock cooler should be fine, though for quieter operation that would be the minimum
https://ksp.co.il/?uin=41170&select=.1066..182.

Don't try to test the CPU with prime95 above version 26.6 - for that you need very serious cooling. And even version 26.6 still creates unrealistic load that no game will cause.

go back up and reread my post - the whole point was that the intel cpu's are hard to impossible to damage

the Noctura NH-U12S cooler n0ns3ns3 recommended above is an excellent choice for that cpu - i have that very cooler on my 4790 (non-k), turbo boosted to 4.0, and even when rendering videos w/cpu showing 100% usage, i have never seen a temp higher than 66C, usually 58-63C

n0ns3ns3 from the stores you give me I understand you from Israel like me but I cant buy other cooler I get it yesterday and I get it because the intel cooler was not good it make my cpu be very hot in the new assassins creed origins with out turbo boost it make my cpu jump from 55 66c idle to 95+ and this was the only cooler the shop near my hose have and now when I run games with out turbo boost assassins creed origins go to 68c 73c and the performance are great not problem in performance gtx 1060 6gb thy told me thy not have other coolers but it load not quiet like the intel and it cheaper then evo 212 300 or 200 + שקלים

if you want to overclock, get better cooler. 212 is not worth buying in Israel as it's over 200NIS the noctua one I posted is way better for just a bit more money.
right now, the temperatures are totally fine so you don't need to change a thing.

so funny I have monitor C24F390 Samsung as well you have better but why so big
i not wanted to overclock I tryed to to do the turbo boost but it make my cpu go to 100c assassins creed origins
so I change it back to 4.0ghz non turbo in and with out turbo when I run assassins creed origins the cpu not heat up to 100c only to 68c/73c if it go to 73c or so and no more then 73x 74 so it fine ?
the fps is great 66/72 low 50 fps
