I'm looking to build a new computer for my mother next year, and so I'm doing some research on some builds to give her a fast computer. She does zero gaming, but she does use programs like photoshop and lite room for photo editing as well as cricut program for her other hobbies. Can an Intel chipset with integrated graphics be suited to her needs or is it better to build a system with a small graphics card like a 1030 or a 1050? I've tried doing some research into this, but most posts and websites I'm finding only want to talk about gaming. I appreciate the help in this department.

If it's only light (small photos) Photoshop editing she will be doing a GPU will not be necessary.

One of the new i5 6-cores with their on-board graphics will be enough for some editing, if you are looking in that price range.

Otherwise your option is a Ryzen processor such as a R5 1600/1600x. Better for productivity than an i5, but you will need a GPU like the GT 1030 to handle the graphics, as Ryzen chips lack an on-board GPU chip to connect to a monitor.

If these are too expensive considering motherboard options too, I can help get something cheaper. I can also overlook the whole build and make some suggestions if you like.

You can do photo editing just fine on an Intel 4th gen on up. My mom's laptop is used mostly for facebook and photoshop. It has a 4xxx cpu and does just fine. The built in graphics on Intel systems have been serviceable for a while.
