I bought Windows 7 SP1 from PC Destination yesterday. My intent was to install it onto a clean hard drive partition. When I attempted to install the program, not only did it stop about 10% into the process, stating that it couldn't find a necessary driver, but the product was an upgrade and wouldn't install onto a clean hard drive at all. I feel as if I spent $40 on vapor ware that was not as advertised. Did I do something wrong?

Your first error is that you are probably trying to install Win 7 on a motherboard designed for Windows 10 (Intel 100, 200, 300 series or Ryzen motherboard).

Your second error is thinking you could get a full, legitimate copy of Windows for $40. Full, legitimate, copies of Windows (7, 8, 10) cost $100 (give or take).

Yes, you purchased something that is not an actual OS. It appears you just bought the SP1 update, which is available from MS for free.
