Frontier just installed a new modem/router for us, with a 5g option. Basically I have my network name, then an option with my network name with 5g. Since I am not even close to being an expert with this stuff, and have never really had good internet. What is the difference? Also, why don't all my devices see the 5g version? The only one that does currently is my new Note 8. And finally, what can I do to get better quality internet in my whole home?

It takes hardware that is capable of receiving 5Ghz signals. Your question is kind of like asking "Why doen't my car radio pickup TV?" The hardware required is different. A lot of older hardware that is "WIFI enabled" does not support 5Ghz.

If you live in an area without a lot of WIFI congestion (suburban house) then "regular" 2.4Ghz WIFI is probably just fine for most things. If you have a lot of simultaneously active WIFI devices, then moving some (or all) of them to 5Ghz will improve performance for all devices. If you stream a lot of video, like Netflix, then moving those devices to 5Ghz can improve their performance. If you can use a wired connection rather than the WIFI it is even better.
