1. This adds on to a previous thread but i decided that im going to get a gtx 1060 6gb, the card i have now is a Amd Radeon 7770, with a intel I5-4690k and 8gb of ram. And heard that the 1060 6gb is many tiers above my amd and will be able to run almost any game on 1080p with 60fps. But when i look up videos on my card with my specs for games like Doom, Gta 5, and Far cry. It seems to be able to play those games any way so is it really worth buying a new card.

2. Also i dont want to buy the gtx 1060 6gb if its going to be outdated in another year and not be able to play the games then. So i want to make sure it would last.

3. Also i might get a 4k monitor in the near future(probably next year) and will it still be good for 4k.
I dont really have the money for a gtx 1070.

Here is a link to Tom's Hardware GPU hierarchy. It is a good rule of thumb to make a jump at least 3 tiers to see a significant improvement.

In your case, it will be a jump of 7 tiers. So there will be a significant jump in performance because you will be able to maintain 60fps at higher detail settings where as on the 7770, you would need to drop the settings pretty low or play at 720p to get a solid 60fps.

The 1060 is a great card, and it will be a big boost to your 7770. I would go for it.

Would i last though? also how come i look up mu specs and a game like gta 5 and it running a high fps on high settings?

You cant just look at one game to define a card. Games are very different and some games run better with certain hardware than others. So you need to look at a group of games to tell you if it is worth it. You also need to remember, GTA 5 is like three years old. Try running your 7770 on the new AC Origins. You will see a very different result.

Also, as for 4k, the 1060 is not a 4k GPU. 4k gaming is great, but it is really expensive. It is not mainstream yet. For me, I would not go with anything less than a 1080ti for 4k and that is $700 plus the price of a 4k monitor. So unless you are thinking about spending that kinda money, I would stick with 1080p.

You could go with a 1070 and a 1440p monitor down the road. The 1070 is an excellent card, but it is a good bit more than a 1060.

ok thank you. Also if i did decide to just get a 4k monitor, i know the game wont be native 4k but will the game still look some what 4k?

Actually, a 4K monitor running 1080p resolution can look worse than HD because you still have the additional pixels.

Honestly, unless you are getting a really big 4K monitor, 4K does not make a great PC experience. While 4K gaming is awesome, the pixel desnisty makes everything very difficult to read because it is so small.
