Hey today I bought a raedon r9 280 and it seems that it only has a 6 and 8 power supply slot (if u know what I mean) But my motherboard (AMD FX 6300 six core processor, 3500mhz) doesn't seem to have the right connection it only has a long 16 pin one.... What can I do to make the two compatible?

PSU I have - penquin 550w intel atx 2.31volt

I do have one 8 pin but that is connected to a slot on the motherboard labeled "ATX" is this needed?

Sorry, how did I forget that lol, penquin 550w intel atx 2.31volt

Never seen or heard of that before, can't find it online.

Can't find any info on that penguin. Can you post photo of PSU label?

Generally, if PSU doesn't have appropriate PCIE connectors, it will not be able to support your graphics card anyway (even with bunch of adapters).
Get a new one - quality PSU model.

So I opened it up and my PSU has 6 pin molex and some long 16pin connector
I found you can buy the double 6 pin molex to a 6 pin that goes into the graphics card
Is this a good idea to buy or will I have to spend another 100 on a psu?

Molex is 4pin not 6pin btw. 8pin connector connected to motherboard most likely is cpu 12v power connector.
And I have no idea, what 16pin connector is. Can't understand from your descriptions. Post photos.
