Computer doesn’t power on when gpu is plugged in

It could be various things. May not be seated correctly, power supply connectors not making a proper connection, the video card itself could have gone bad, the pci-e slot on the motherboard could have gone bad, the power supply itself could be acting up.

I would first try cleaning the pci-e slot & the video card with 90% alcohol(the pins, not the entire card) & then making sure the card is installed/seated properly. Then make sure the PSU connections on the card are plugged in/secured properly.

If that doesn't work, then borrow/buy another video card(for testing) or possibly see if a local repair shop is willing to just test another video card

yeah but shouldn't my evga 500b be able to power it has 12v+ at 40 amps but then i plug the gpu in the fans twitch once and then the power button becomes unresponsive and then i need to turn off the power supply and turn it back on for it to work again

Doesn't matter. Your GPU should only be drawing 28 amps anyway.

Your PSU should only be pushing 40amp on the 5v or more on the 3.3v rail.

More volts, less amps. More amps, less volts
