Hard drive format because of motherboard swap?

do i have to format my hard drive if i change my motherboard but keep my cpu? I want to get a new motherboard from msi (the mobo i have now is from msi) but keep my cpu, do i still have to format my hard drive?

What are model names of original and replacement motherboards?
If both boards have same chipset, then full reinstall can be avoided.
Sata controller and boot mode settings in BIOS will have to be matched. And you'll need to reinstall chipset drivers.
Ah yeah - and there will be windows activation problem.

Why do you want to change the boards? It doesn't give any performance improvement (if no OC is involved). Just extra expenses.
