Hello,

A friend just had a problem while updating from his i5 6600K to an i7 7700K. Basically, the PC won't boot. The debug led changes the code almost everytime. It seems he should have updated his BIOS... The main problem is that I can't even switch back to the i5, since it won't boot either and gives the error code 99... I tried clearing the CMOS, trying to boot with one stick of RAM, etc...

Thank you very much for your time!

System Specs:
MSI z170a M7
i5 6600 k / i7 7700k
GTX 1080 G1
16GB of RAM G.Skill

Yup that would have been the prob the 7700k needs a BIOS update for a Z170 mobo. If there's a speaker on the mobo remove the ram. See if it beeps.

If it doesnt then there maybe a prob. If it does beep make sure the ram clicks into the slot

I had a similar prob with a PC here this morning. I removed the CPU to reapply paste. When I reinstalled it, the damn thing posted but nothing would display on the screen

So I removed the ram to seer if it would beep (with a speaker). It did whew. So I figured that the CPU was OK

Then I reinstalled the ram stick by stick. And made sure it was in properly

(I've got 3 sticks in it). And whew it posted and something appeared on the screen
