So about a month ago I turned on my pc it within a minute it jumped to 99 degrees Celsius. I cleaned off the old thermal paste off both the cpu and the water cooler, added new paste and reassembled.
i actually had to do this 4 or 5 times before I was able to get it stable and running at around 34 and around 68 under stress. At this point it ran fine for the last month or more as i ran it under stress daily playing PUBG for hours on end on almost a daily basis until today.

Today I turned it on and bam in less than 60 seconds it hit 99 degrees c where it sat at until i shut it down. I've cleaned the cpu and cooler about 3 times now with no success at getting it stable. I've tried different amounts of paste, tried placing it different and nothing. I will try what the original poster tried that worked for him here shortly and see what happens but the thing that gets me is that i was able to stabilize it once before and have it run just fine so why has this happened again??

As i said i will try what worked for the org poster but if anyone has any insight as to what might be going on here in the mean time it would be greatly appreciated.

if the water cooler is failing would it run at high speed when the cpu is posting 99 degrees c? I had thought maybe it could be the cooler but never took the steps to see as it is running at high rpm at the this temp.

Well damn diggy dog, good thing i had a back up water cooler. Put that puppy in and stable mable, thanx chief!!!
