i5 2300 & GTX 1060 vs 1050 ti

I have an old prebuilt that I'm looking to get a little extra life out of before I build something new, so I'm looking to upgrade the GPU for now. Like the title says, I have an i5 2300 and was wondering if there would be any advantage to buying a 1050 ti over a 1060 3gb if I plan on including it in the future build? My current monitor is 1600x900 so that's what resolution i'll be playing the games on (The Evil Within and Dark Souls 3 are the newest games I'd be playing). Thanks in advance

As the system is a prebuilt. It likely has a junk PSU. The only advantage I can see for a GTX 1050 Ti is that you might be able to get away with using the original PSU. While with the GTX 1060 you will almost certainly have to replace it.

If you do buy a new PSU as well. Buy a good one so you can use it in the next system. I would stick with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 unit.

at that low resolution a gxt 1050 ti is plenty

but if you want to upgrade the monitor soon, then yes a 1060 would be a good idea

until you upgrade you would see little benefit though
