WHY is the GTX 660 better in perfomance than GT 610?

Memory does not directly equate to performance. Despite both cards having the same VRAM, the GPU inside is different and the one in the GTX 660 has more cuda cores and a faster clock, therefore better performance. The GT 610 is a low end card not intended to perform very well.

I'll try to make it as simple as I can.
The 610 and 660 are based on the same architecture for the gpu.
However the 660 is about 6x better than the 610.
Why?
Well the 660 has way more cores that are running at a higher clockspeed and therefor can process much more data faster than the 610.
However you cannot compare a gpu with just it's specs because it can happen that a gpu with 2000 cores at 1ghz gets beaten by one with 640 cores at 800mhz.
Why? Because of architectural improvements over time. Gpu's become more efficient and stronger with every itteration of a architecture design (usually).

Therefor when comparing a gpu try to find a review of said card and see what against which ones it compares. Then do it for the other too. If you find a review or test that has both then thats quite easy. But if you don't you'll just have to look for an overlap or ask on a forum (like this one).

Do make sure you get your info from at least 3 independant sources and try to avoid small youtube channels that are like GTA V ULTRA SETTINGS 1080p 60 FPS GT610 and only test 1 scenario and never show the settings / hardware. Since it will never be able to do that (like maybe get 3 fps or so at max).

The higher clock rate.
The increased population of the cores (CUDA Cores) that runs at that higher clock rate.
The cores processes graphics much faster,
And the higher memory clock rates makes visualizing of those graphics possible.
Minor changes in architecture.

Apart from specs alone, the GTX 660 with a good and efficient heat, power and data management helps it perform like a beast.
