Approximate Purchase Date: Not 100% sure. Sometime in the next few months. I'm kinda hoping to wait for the next gen graphics cards so that the price drops (or I get a better GPU....) but not sure I'll wait.

Budget Range: Roughly $3000 but that's for everything including a desk, monitor, HTC Vive, etc.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Virtual Reality gaming and significant multi-tasking (lightroom photo editing while streaming movies and browsing internet, etc.)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, but probably a cheap one. Mostly looking at VR headset for high quality display. I probably won't do much high end non-VR gaming.

Parts to Upgrade: Full new build

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg or amazon. No strong preference.

Location: Albany, Oregon

Parts Preferences: Intel Processor.

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Probably in the future but not now.

Your Monitor Resolution: Thinking 1920x1080 but not sure.

Additional Comments: No preference at all on looks. I'm going for strictly performance. Preferably very stable and upgradable to be high-end as long as possible without replacing motherboard or processor.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Looking for a good high-end VR system.

Solution
The problems you had with PSUs in the past is definitely because they were low quality ones, like a 850w bronze unit.
The entire SS Focus Plus line has a 10 year warranty, So the company is willing to bet that in 10 years you won't have any problems with it.

different case, supports the 5.25 drives .

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($339.99 @ B&H)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($28.90 @ Newegg Marketplace)
Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming (rev. 1.0) ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($139.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory...
Added CPU cooler, you'll want it, stock coolers aren't great.
Cheaper motherboard, yours was pointlessly expensive.
Better case, will keep computer cooler.
Cheaper much better PSU, you didn't need anywhere near that many watts, and bronze is a bit poor for a $100 PSU.
A better monitor, you really can't spend all your time in VR (I own a Rift), so this monitor will at least make your time out of VR enjoyable/not un-enjoyable.
SLI/crossfire is dead.

Overall comes in a bit cheaper than your original one.

Thanks for the advice!

- I added the CPU cooler
- Agreed on the Motherboard
- I'm not sure about the case. I'm fine with a more expensive option but unless I'm missing something, the Fractal Design Meshify doesn't support an internal 5.25 drive and I really would prefer an internal blue-ray drive rather than external. Any recommendations for a better case that has an internal 5.25 drive option?
- I switched to the Seasonic Focus PSU which is Gold but I stuck with 850 Watts. I've had horribly annoying power issues in the past and I don't want to worry about it. I know it's overkill but it's worth $20 to me.
- Added the monitor as a starting point for when I research that.
