I am planning to build my gaming rig soon but I haven't yet decide on which graphics card I should get, a gtx 1060 6gb or an rx 580 8gb.

I am interested in these models:

My budget is under $2000 and in Australia, the parts are a lot more expensive compared to the US.

My specs:

Ryzen 7 1700 $399
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 2400Mhz $0
AMD Wraith Spire RGB $0
MSI B350 Tomahawk $159
Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NvME SSD $175
WD Blue 1TB HDD $65
EVGA Supernova G1 650 watt PSU $129
Phanteks Eclipse P400S Tempered Glass $129
Windows 10 Home $159

I'm leaning towards the RX 580 atm because It is cheaper and has more VRAM. Also let me know if I should change any of my specs except the RAM because I already have it and I didn't have to pay for it so the price is not Included. I also have to pay for the monitor so that adds $248 extra to the list.

Thank you

Performance wise, they are comparable to each other. The 1060 is a bit more energy efficient if you don't have a great PSU, but beyond that, just go with whichever one you can get the best deal on. You will be happy either way.

This is a side note.

Concerning RAM, you can use that RAM just fine, But for the best gains you really want 3000Mhz kit or above Ryzen likes fast RAM

As i understand, it has something to do with IF (Infinity Fabric) that benefits from it

it should also be pointed out some RAM still may have issues hitting high clock speeds with Ryzen the CL 14 RAM is guaranteed Samsung b-die but it cost a lot more.

As for the GPUs i can't answer currently in the same debate leaning towards the RX 580 theoretically it will be better for the future
