Upgrade to i7 7700k or wait for i7 8700k?

So I build this PC one and a half year ago, choosing an i5 6600k as the CPU. Lately I've been thinking that perhaps it's time to upgrade to an i7, but the thing is that I'm not sure what to do.I will be able to afford the 7700k in 1-2 months, since I won't need to change my motherboard (got the ASUS 170-A which is compatible with 7th GEN CPUs after a BIOS update). Or, I could also wait for way longer and try to get a new MOBO and the i7 8700k. Not sure though if it will be worth the wait? I mean, will I actually gain anything by spending that much money on the MOBO/CPU combo? Thanks in advance for any help.

Just go all the way and get the i7 8700k... You'll never know when u will need to do some cpu intensive stuff like programing and Android development but it's always worth it in the long run. I had trouble deciding myself but hell with it...spent all that money for GPU mobo psu and especially ram, I just put the extra money and ordered the I7 8700k today and should reach by next week to complete my build.
This cpu will last at least 10 years with minor upgrades and it's a monster cpu D.

I'd get the latter. I keep seeing so many reviews that the 7700k is the one of the worst CPUs and disappointment of the year. Which is sad cause I was thinking about getting that earlier this year. I'm relief that I didn't. I can't provide more info than that since I kept scheming over it. But it falls down on what you need your computer for, if all you do is gaming, the 7700k suffices and it's cheaper.

The 7700k was no slouch by any means. The 8700k is very, very slightly faster in most games, but if all 6c/12t are loaded up, that's really where it shines.

Hell, if that's what you want just go with Ryzen for a fraction of the price xD

I'm gonna be pretty much running some codes as soon as I enter university, but other than that, mostly gaming. The thing is that I've noticed people saying that the 8700k is gonna be future-proof since more and more games will be optimised for multi-threaded oriented CPUs. There is also the fact that my CPU which is running @ 4.2 Hz is on 100% usage causing fps stutters and drops whenever I play games like BF4/BF1/ARMA-3 while my GPU is pretty much asleep. Could it be completely the CPU's fault or does it have to with the fact that my monitor is only 1080p, thus making my CPU take all the load while the GPU doesn't give a damn?

The 8700k - or even the i5-8400/8600k - would indeed be more future-proof, but it also means a motherboard replacement too.

BF1 is definitely a CPU hog; I'm surprised at ARMA. ARMA beats the crap out of one core and that's about it.

To sum it up, the 7700k would offer a definite improvement over what you've got now, but a 6-core Coffee Lake (be it the i5 or the i7) will offer even more power in reserve if/when you need it.,,at the cost of the CPU AND motherboard. H-series motherboards will be out early 2018; Z-series are out now. The CPUs are still a bit scarce and hard-to-find though.

The CPU is not scarce over here for some reason, I can already see it available in multiple local stores. Should I wait for the H-Series mobos or is it not that important?

H boards are cheaper, but if you want to overclock, you'll need a Z370 anyway.
