CPU/Motherboard chipset compatability

Solution
Since you already have the I5-6600K, you do not need a new motherboard. All you need to do is update the BIOS on your current motherboard to one that supports the new I7-7700K processor.

It says you need an older processor in order to update the BIOS. You already have one in the I5-6600K

So it’s saying it’s not a guarantee if I update the bios that it will support it?

If you're going to get a new motherboard too I would skip the kaby lake all together and go coffee lake so you would have an upgrade path. The 8600k competes well with the 7700k.

I would do this if I wasn't already buying a GTX 1080. I'd consider the other motherboard if it was backwards compatible with older gpus so I could get the Kaby Lake then upgrade to a Coffee Lake later.
