I have a 1TB Samsung 850 PRO that I have been using in my PC. Now I have a laptop and a surface pro that I wanted to share this ssd on. I tried 2 ways below but the speed is only around 5 to 10 mb/sec.

1.) Made the SSD a shared drive inside my PC. This way my PC was able to use full potential of the SSD. My other devices were able to access the drive but very slow.
2.) Bought a USB to SATA 3 cable and hooked it up to usb of my ASUS RT-AC68U router. Still no use, super slow 10 to 15 mb/sec. None of my 3 devices were able to use the full potential of the SSD.

I would like to access the SSD in my all 3 devices but don't want to compromise on speed. In my PC I see the SSD reads around 450 mb/sec. I want to keep the speed same on my PC and at least get 100mb/sec on my other devices. I have been doing a lot of research and finally decided to ask the experts here. It may be impossible to accomplish this but I see this as an opportunity to gain more knowledge.

Should I buy a powerful expensive router and hook the ssd (usb 3.0)? Not sure. Please suggest and help a novice. THanks in advance.

How much of this remote access is via WIFI? Your best option would be having the SSD on your PC with 1Gb wired connectivity to your router and then wired connectivity to other devices. Then would be 5Ghz AC WIFI (not many devices are AC compatible), then 5GHz N, then 2.4Ghz.
