DHCP Suddenly Stops Sending To My Room?

Hey, so I have been running an Xbox One / Windows 10 PC setup in my bedroom for years now working flawlessley, I have a cat 5 cable running up from my router a floor below to a ethernet wall jack and from there into a 5 way switch which connects to my Xbox and computer. However, today, my Xbox went offline saying that my DHCP server cannot be found, and my PC said that my IP address was invalid (there is none because DHCP won’t send to my room) I restarted the router multiple times to no avail, and I checked wired computers in other rooms and they were working fine. It is also not my switch, because I took the cable from the wall and plugged it directly into my Xbox and the same problem still occured. My setup has been working fine for years even through provider changes and everything, but today my router just randomly chose to cut off my connection. If anyone knows how to fix this please reply, thanks!

It pretty much means there is some issue with the cabling between the wall jack and the router. maybe you get lucky and it is the patch cable from the router to the remote wall jack. I guess the good news is that it is extremely rare for the wire itself to have a problem. It is almost one of the ends. In many cases you can just pull the wires out and repunch them down. You can use a very narrow screw driver to put the wires back into the jack if you do not have a punch down tool. The jack itself could be bad but that too is rare but they cost less than $5 at most home improvement stores.

I just set a static IP on my PC with no change. It has always been automatic. If it helps, in the network and sharing center my network is called “unidentified network” which it never was before.

Sorry if it wasn’t clear above, but I already tried pluging straight into the wall rather than using the switch and nothing happened, so does that mean my cat 5 cable is faulty?

To be honest I was expecting worse so this is a relief. I have a punch tool so I’ll try and re-crimp the ends and see if that works.
