Do I need to reset my SSD for a new Windows key?

I'm building a new Threadripper system. I'm replacing everything except my storage. My previous PC had an OEM version of Windows 10 so I can't use that key (right?).
I'm wondering if I need to reset my SSD before installing a new license. I have some files that I really want to keep, preferably without putting it back in my old build and transferring it to my harddrive.

Well you should do a clean install of windows when switching to a new platform regardless of if you are using a different key. An OS installed on one system then used on a totally different system will almost certainly cause problems if it works at all.

Microsoft might let you use an OEM key on a different system if you call them and say you are switching motherboards, I have heard of people having success doing that. But no OEM keys are intended to only be used with the motherboard it was originally installed with.
