Hi all,

My itx build just powered off under heavy load as if the psu switch had been flipped. It then tried to power back on the same way and repeated that cycle intermittently before I intervened.

The room was hot so I gave it a bit and tried it again, to observe under idle conditions to see if it was temp related. Same thing happened after about 3 minutes of operation.
On the bright side, nothing seems corrupted. Everything started normally and none of the other components seem affected.

The way in which it shut off (how it sounded and the way the power light operated) has me thinking the psu is faulty. Never had any problem before, which leads me to believe it's not a short on the mother board from an extra standoff or something.

I just wanted to get another opinion. I believe the psu is faulty possibly because the PC spent 3 months in a damp basement. I have ordered another to replace it. I just don't want to put it in and have it brown out all my parts because I got the diagnosis wrong.

Thanks for your time.

Well, there's probably no way you're going to know for sure, considering the damp you mentioned, aside from just putting it in and trying it. I would suggest that you make certain the system is in a warm dry room for at least a day or two before doing so in order to be certain it's dryed out. Beyond that, not much you can do really. Depending on the age of the PSU, might be worth RMAing it. I've had to RMA the VP-450 in my mom's computer twice, but the second replacement has been solid for the last three years so far.

What is the model of the replacement PSU you purchased?
