I've just installed WinXP on a mini-motherboard computer and everything seems OK except that It fails to connect to my Verizon Quantum router even via an ethernet port. I subsequently installed Linux Mint 18.2 on the same machine and everything including internet connections works perfectly. I spoke to Verizon today and they seemed stumped by my problem. My machine has 2GB of system memory and a 64-GB hard drive
shared between Linux Mint and Windows XP. Windows XP indicates that it detects no modem.

I'll appreciated any help from this forum.

Solution
XP AFAIK doesnt install any LAN drivers. I dont think t's got any drivers in its install

You have to find out what the brand/model of your motherboard is. Get drivers off their site

Thanks very much for your excellent question as to whether I had installed ethernet drivers. My answer is not as I assumed that my Windows XP disk alone would suffice. Can you tell me how to obtain a free copy of these drivers? Thanks again.
