I am building my first pc, and am on a budget of 1500 us dollars. I got all the parts that i need, but when it came to the cpu everyone was telling me that ryzen 1600x(or just 1600) is much better for its 6 cores(vs the 4 core of intel) but thr core i5 8600k came out now with quite a reasonable price and 6 cores but ill have to pay 80 more dollars, and pay more for the motherboard. I wanted to know if ut would be better to go with ryzen or just go with intel. I am planning on heavy gaming and some mild editing.

Certain (video?) editing may improve with the ThreadRipper. But gaming hasn't reached the threshold of exceeding 12 threads yet. And may never.
But for something like 4K video editing, the ThreadRipper is hard to beat. Even the 1700X is...

Tough call. I think I'd be inclined to line up with the Intel platform. But only by a small margin. I can't remember, is the i5-8600K hyper-threaded? I don't think so. If not, that leans in Ryzen's favor.
What are your main uses for the build?

Does the price difference allow you to upgrade another part of the build?
For example, would going Ryzen get you a higher tier of graphics card?
Or a bigger SSD?
Or something else you want/need?
Because even in just gaming, you are NOT going to see any massive jump in performance on an Intel platform,
Sure it benchmarks higher, sometimes.
But if the price difference means you get a better video card, then the Ryzen setup would be faster, while still retaining all the benefits of a 6C/12T processor for any other things you might do.

Given the talk about next year's 8 core mainstream Intel offering, and ANOTHER new chipset ( Z390), alongside the shortest lifespan high end chipset ever ( Z270, 9 months form launch to suicide).....

Ryzen. Toss a $30 ish dollar cooler on it. ( Hyper 212 Evo or equivalent)
OC to 3.9-4.0 GHz.
Be happy.

No the core i5 is not hyper-threaded.
And if the margin is that smalll then how about an amd ryzen 7 1900x its roughly the same price ans i can afford if its worth the price. Am planning on doing heavy gaming and some mild editing
