I am dirt poor no job, Pretty much a bum but i feel like i am finally so close to being able to have a decent computer and be able to game on at least 80-100 fps as i normally am at 20-40 but still lag because of my CPU Ive got
dell optiplex 780, intel core 2 duo-3.00gh, 10gb ram, nvida geforce gtx 1050ti.
So like im thinking i need to upgrade that cpu and ill be all good right? right. but withthe new cpu comes needing a new mother board and all that right? right. SO i was thinking if it would be easy to say purchase a cruddy cheap computer with a solid processor that is compatible with my ram(PC3-10600 , DDR3-1333MHZ) and my graphics card. Like order it and when it gets here just take my ram and graphics card out. throw it in the new one with a better cpu?? will something like that work or is there a different option(s)? Please help me... i have been gaming on garbage my whole life!

As much as I respect peoples opinion, I am not one to judge peoples decision in life, I am only here to answer technical questions.

I have seen some I5-2xxx or I5-3xxx series dell selling case/motherboard and cpu for 150-250$ on ebay.
you could easily then transfer Ram over and video card as well as your hard drive, (likely need to reinstall windows due to major hardware changes)
the upgrade would be really a big upgrade

example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-790-Desktop-Computer-PC-Intel-i5-Quad-3-1GHz-8GB-1TB-Win7-WiFi-SFF/182762003814?hash=item2a8d76dd66:g:lHsAAOSwCMFZ86KT
the only issue with this case it is a slim desktop and unless you have a Slim video card you would have to strip motherboard and everything else from...

Yes but I have a dual core. I am really trying to get a guard core. Is that one better than mine?

This may sound rude or insensitive, but instead of worrying about gaming how about saving your money and using what you got to get your resume together and get a job. Then after you get a few paychecks in your pocket treat yourself to a new CPU and motherboard. Instead of scraping together your last couple bucks to do what will amount to a minor upgrade.

Just my 2 cents.

You offered up your information

I am dirt poor no job, Pretty much a bum

But... and I'll paraphrase.... "I want to build up a gaming computer".

You want advice? My advice is stop making bad financial decisions and get a job. IMO thats much more helpful than telling you to spend your last hundred bucks on parts that will NOT give you what you want, because there is nothing of the "cheap dirt poor broke" level that will magically get your fps from 40 to 100.

You want help? I'll happily give you some career advice, I would even proofread your resume for you.

I think you understand what I am getting at... the example I show is an I5-2400 which in itself will be a good upgrade for the money.
will you get 80FPS in games, depends on the games to be honest if your expecting that on PUBG, then I will be the first to say not likely.
late you could do another upgrade to the I7-2600.

i5/7-3xxx, 4xxx are over 250-300 for the cpu alone. And would require an 1150 motherboard, and Dell OptiPlex with 3, and 4xxx series cpus either i5 or i7 are running 300-400 and if your going to spend that kind of money then I would suggest getting a newer cpu series.

yes. except there is! all i need for it to be complete is a better processor! if you read myyy post instead of just the " im a broke bum part" you could have answered to what i asked about and not what i didnt ask about. thank you for the advice but you know nothing of my situation. "stop making bad financial decisions" ? how do you know i wont be using my computer to be making money too? and even if it is a bad financial decision thats not something you should even be talking about!

I dont mind playing around 50 fps... what gets me is the fps drop when things get hectic! thats where the older crappy processor that i have comes into negative effect. but i like the idea of that optiplex 790 if it is cheaper and easier than other options. and i will save that answer for when the time comes and i can upgrade even further.
