Hi guys,
So im aware of how much better the i7 7700k is for gaming when pitted against the ryzen 1700x but I'm curious if thats where the advantages end. Does more clock speed also increase your overall PC speed aswell ? I ask because I'm thinking of getting a second monitor and that'll mean im gonna be doing things and gaming at the same time like for example playing warcraft and watching a movie on the other monitor. I also run several background processes at any given time while i game, i almost always have 3 chrome tabs open, steam running, teamspeak and skype runnig, battle.net going and maybe some others i cant think of right now. Which CPU would be best to drive all that would i still be the speedier cpu or the one that has more more cores.
Thanks guys

None of those programs are multi-threaded as far as I'm aware, but none of them are particularly CPU intensive either, so whilst IPC should be more advantageous, I doubt there will be much of a margin.

Intel and AMD CPU architecture is completely different, so comparisons of clock speed are irrelevant.

Both CPUs will perform admirably, but ask yourself where you may be in a few years time. If you see yourself doing even more multi-tasking then Ryzen will probably be a better option. This could be...

When i buy the whole system it will be with the intention of playing every game at 1440p at 80+ fps so i've got my eyes on a gsync 1440p 144hz monitor and a 1080ti for atleast 3 years since buying and upgrading with every new bit of hardware to keep up with the demands costs more in the long run, but Id like to think its sole purpose wouldn't be for gaming like i previously mentioned id like to watch movies on it alongside gaming and juggle a 1440p monitor and a 1080p monitor for bluray movies etc hell maybe at some point in the next few years i'll switch that 1080 for a 4k monitor but still game on the 1440p. IIm also not that into streaming or rendering not that I want to remove that opportunity for like 5 - 10 extra fps in gaming, it looks like ryzen is the best all rounder however if it cant drive the game i want at the frames i want for the next 3 years then i'll have to get the faster 7700k right? Does any of that change your answer ?
