Was just a bit curious about how the xbox one x can perform quite well with a 2.3 ghz octa core cpu? Usually server cpus with same clocks and cores perform much worse that high clock lower core cpus in gaming.

Solution
In a nutshell: Optimization.

On a console front (XB1 or otherwise), developers only have to code for a very limited number of hardware configurations, on hardware specifically designed to run games (2.3GHz 8core chips etc) - at set quality presets/resolutions; the couple of XB1 variants, PS4 etc. <10 different, unique(ish) configurations..

Compared to the PC equivalent of thousands (or more?) different configurations, it's just easier (not "easy", just easIER)

Server chips are a horrible comparison as, outside of core count and clock speed, there are barely any comparables between them; they're designed for entirely different workloads.

Optimization, dynamic resolution and fake resolution (chekerboard rendering).

Everything above basically. Have you also noticed that last gen i7-6700 runs at 2.5 GH and can max out at 3.5. Ryzen THREE starts at 3.5 GHZ and is one third of the price. Optimization as well.

Also regarding one of the answers above, the Xbox one X does not use fake resolutions. The One X is pretty much the only major console that does not use ANY fake resolutions.
