PLEASE DISREGARD- Decided to just upgrade everything and start fresh. Thank you.

I have spent the last 6 hours troubleshooting my PC after simply replacing a CPU which had died- no upgrade, just replacing an I5-3470 with same make/model.

After much ado, I can get it to fully start Windows 10, but with only 1 of my original sticks of RAM. Both sticks of ram will work, if I alternate them out in the socket, so they are both good.

But when I put both sticks in, no post, no beep. Fans and HDs are going, but monitor feed is nil.

I have followed every step in the great guide here- XMP set for Memory, Bios Updated, CMOS reset, PSU tested with another PC.

So in a nutshell, until I did Step 6 in this post http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems I had no signal/post beep at all, for good measure I did finish out the list.

So my question is this, now that I am down to one stick, how do I get them both working together again?

MB- ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX ,
CPU- I5-3470,
RAM-2 Sticks DDR3 1600 Viper Extreme 8GB (px38g1600c11)

All components, except for CPU I have been using for years with no issues.

Memtest86 running now, 3 passes with zero errors so far..... so I am thinking my memory should be OK, but even on successful start-ups Windows is acting unstable and freezing up or crashing to restart after random lengths of time.

To rule out your ram, they should undergo 10 passes at least. You should be specific about your motherboard since there are a number of SKU's/model under that chipset and you should also inspect the CPU socket to see if there are any bent/broken pins on the CPU socket.

You also forgot to mention what your CPU upgrade was...and you should try and run the ram kit on another system and rule out your ram slots being faulty.

Updated System Info.

No way to test the Slots, I only have the one MB that can use them, and they were working fine till now, sadly. If it is a bent pin, I could not detect it with a magnifying glass. Never had a pin bend/break- so quite possible not even sure what I was looking for exactly.

Will Memtest86 alert me if there is an issue with the CPU, or is there another app I could use for that? I am going to use the Intel PC Diagnostic tool, for now.

Update- By ignoring the MBs manual and sticking both sticks next to each other in the A1 and A2 slots- they both read and the PC boots to Windows 10.

Now, however- the PC seems to run things slowly, pixelating videos from time to time, slow in opening apps, almost has the feel of lag, if I were doing online stuff. It is especially noticeable when opening an application, everything kind of just hangs for a few seconds,Vids pixelate, mouse/cursor freeze or vanish etc, then it "catches up" and things run OK. But it happens sometimes on its own, without me doing anything, with a single video or music playing, or when simply opening a desktop folder.

This is something that my system never did with these same components (minus the CPU).

I ran memtest86 overnight for 7 passes, with 0 errors.

I ran Intels own Intel Processor Diagnostic Test, twice under 100% CPU loads (I had two videos and a game open running in background as I ran the app) and the CPU passed every test with zero faults or errors.

What could be causing this system "slow down/chugginess"?

ps- going to let memtest run all day while I am at work, to see if anything new comes up.
