How to check if M.2 is PCIe based?

So this might be a silly question but I am not very familiar with M.2 SSDs but I am considering getting one shortly. I do have my sights set on a Crucial MX300 525GB M.2 2280 but I am having a hard time determining if this is PCIe based or SATA based as the technical specs don't seem to state so.

Again, might be a stupid question but can someone confirm or know if the Crucial MX300 M.2 2280 SSD is PCIe based as the mobo I am planning on only accepts PCI express SSDs.

That's a SATA-based M.2 SSD.

Typically, if the same drive model exists in a 2.5" format (SATA), then the M.2 is likely SATA-based also.

Not all M.2 ports can utilize SATA & PCIe. Some can, others can only do one or the other. Some boards have 1xPCIe OR SATA and a secondary that only supports one or the other.

Older boards, and laptops were predominantly SATA only - but boards like ASUS' Z97-A were PCIe only.

Also; due to limitations with the controller, a SATA-based M.2 drive populated on a motherboard will typically disable a traditional SATA port or two - so consult your manual to understand what ports will be disabled.

Cheers, the documents I was looking at didn't specify the interface. Good to know
