I just built my first custom rig and I’m playing games like warhammer 2 and destiny 2 and my cpu will run at around 80-85C my cooler is the X62 kraken liquid cooler and I’m clocked around 4.9 ghz thanks to Intel boost What can I do to lower temperatures?

My specs are:

CPU: i7 7700k
MOBO: Asus Strix z270
RAM: 2x 8gb trident z 3200mhz
Case: phanteks enthoo evolv
GPU: Asus strix GTX 1080ti
PSU: EVGA 850 G3
Storage: Samsung SSD 1TB

You have to do it through the BIOS. To get to the BIOS just shut down your computer and turn it on, after pressing the power button press the DEL (delete) key on your keyboard multiple times until a menu shows up, then follow the guide below.

Here's a guide on how to overclock on your platform: https://youtu.be/FjIweExETlI?t=6m12s

Just follow through and you should be able to make it work.

For you I'd make the following changes: Set the multiplier to 49 instead of 45 as your CPU can already work at those speeds and it wouldn't be beneficial.

For the voltage set it to 1.35v.

Then test and see if it still runs at those hot temperatures.

Did you overclock it yourself? Or did you use a utility? If you used a utility, you should try manually overclocking the CPU.

Usually built in overclocking utilities apply too much voltage as a preventative measure to keep things stable. Try watching some overclocking guides and try going for 4.9Ghz on your own tweaking your own settings.

You should be seeing lower temps and this way you can fine tune your overclock to your liking, to where you most sit comfortable with it.

No it came [strike]over locked[/strike] overclocked. I didn’t mess with it and the cooler comes with thermal paste pre -applied and I’m sure the cooler is working because it is lighting up and the software detects it

80-85ºC isn't the end of the world but it is on the hot side, I'd personally overclock the chip myself, that cooler should be able to handle a 4.9Ghz OC I think, unless you live in a very hot environment.

I'd recommend you trying to overclock it yourself and disregard the pre-overclocked settings, there are plenty of great guides out there if you'd like to give it a try, if you can't be bothered and the temps are an issue to you, you can always run the CPU stock, which would be a waste since you have a pretty good setup, but its best than to worry over temperatures all the time.

Java:

Hope it runs good for a long while.

You can try decreasing the voltage at higher multiplies to see if you can get 4.8Ghz with lower voltage, it'll still run cooler, but that's up to you to play with later.
