Do I need a 4 Ram Slots motherboard if I plan to use only one RAM slot?

I was going to buy a micro atx motherboard (Asrock B250M-HDV) which has two RAM slots in it. I am planning on using only 1 ram slot with 8 GB ram. I m happy with this motherboard as it is very budget friendly and fulfills all my needs. But recently a Friend of mine suggested that I only buy a 4 RAM slot motherboard. He says sometimes RAM slots get damaged and don't work. In that case having 4 RAM slots will save my motherboard as even if 2 RAM slots malfunction over time, I would still have 2 more slots. I wanted to know if that is possible that 2 or more RAM slots stop working with usage and having extra RAM slots will save motherboard from getting wasted. If so then should I upgrade to 4 RAM slot motherboard even when I will be using only one slot (with 8 GB ram) and never ever add more RAM in motherboard. Also I plan to use this motherboard for at least 10 years or till the time it gets damaged. PLEASE HELP IN THIS REGARD ASAP. THANKS :)

Slots might get damaged or be damaged on arrival which warrants an RMA. Sometimes slots are damaged and others might work but there's no guarantee of that either.

Having a system for next 10 years might not be possible and few motherboard really last that long in terms of working and being relevant and capable of working with the software of the day. On that note, if you're planning to keep the system for as long as possible get the best motherboard according to reviews for your budget. A better motherboard might be more expensive but some of them have better components and SMDs and VRM so overall better longevity, power management and delivery to components like CPU, RAM and etc.

If you want 8GB RAM it's better to get two DIMMs so...

If you want 8GB RAM it's better to get two DIMMs so they would work in dual channel mode. Only if you want to do that get a dual channel kit (2x4GB) which means the maker/brand/vendor is guaranteeing them working together with no issues.

Again in order to keep the system for as long as possible I would say get 16GB of RAM. In a few years time 8GB might just not be enough, however, this depends on your use of the system.

If it's a day to day and gaming rig I'd say 8GB is pretty much enough for now but having 16GB would make a future RAM upgrade less necessary. Again if you decide to do that get a kit that's tested for dual channel use (2x8GB).

Thanks For really fast reply. I will upgrade the motherboard (with this Asrock B250M Pro4) which is a great budget friendly motherboard and has 4 RAM slots. And thanks for dual channel suggestion, I totally forgot about that. GREAT SOLUTION Satan-IR :)
